Talnie Farms

Powering a More Efficient Future with Solar

For Wilbert Talen and his family, running Talnie Farms means always looking for ways to improve efficiency while keeping their cows comfortable and healthy.

The family-operated dairy farm in Prince Edward Island milks just under 60 cows using a robotic milking system. When building their new barn, cow comfort was a top priority. From ventilation fans to robotic milking technology, every decision was made with the well-being of their herd and the long-term efficiency of their operation in mind.

Recognizing how much electricity it takes to run a modern dairy operation, Wilbert saw an opportunity to make better use of their resources and take greater control of the farm’s energy costs. Solar was a natural next step.

The family chose The Smart Energy Company’s NOREASTER® ground-mounted solar system for its durability and ability to withstand Prince Edward Island’s high winds. Engineered for demanding Canadian weather conditions, the NOREASTER offered the reliability and long-term performance they were looking for.

With solar now powering their operation, Talnie Farms is also taking advantage of PEI’s net metering program, allowing them to earn credits for excess electricity generated and offset their electricity costs.

For Wilbert and his family, it’s about more than reducing a power bill. It’s about making smart investments, using resources responsibly, and building a more sustainable future for the next generation.
