Celebrating Earth Day with Solar Energy

This Earth Day our team is extremely proud to be able to share one of our projects which has contributed to the successful implementation of over 1 Megawatt of solar energy throughout New Brunswick. Such spectacular milestones wouldn’t be possible without an abundance of forward thinking and dedicated customers, industry partners, and of course our very own team members committed to making a difference in their communities.
Today we are pleased to feature one of our most recent projects at the brand new Day & Ross trucking terminal at 651 Frenette Avenue in Moncton, NB. So let’s dive headfirst into why Day & Ross went solar for their new facility.
1. Solar is a part of a larger sustainability strategy
In addition to solar energy, new Day & Ross terminals across North America will feature other high-end efficiency technologies such as: LED lighting, high-efficiency heating/cooling systems, electric forklifts, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support future fleet vehicle electrification. Solar energy works best for facilities that are already extremely efficient!
2. Recognizing the need for carbon reduction
In 2018, Canada’s transportation sector accounted for 25% of total national emissions, with emissions from freight travel growing by 147% between 1990 and 2018 according to NRCAN. Day & Ross recognizes the carbon intensive nature of the transportation industry and is actively working to offset this impact with solar energy.
The NOREASTER® solar array at Day & Ross’ new terminal in Moncton will offset an amount of CO2 equal to over 386,000 litres of diesel fuel being consumed by their trucks – a figure which represents a reduction in emissions right here at home, in communities throughout New Brunswick.
3. supporting local innovation
Day & Ross is a locally grown company, established in Hartland, NB.
In 1950, Elbert Day and Walter Ross founded the company, with their first shipment being a single load of potatoes hauled from New Brunswick to Quebec. A far cry from the Day & Ross of today.
These humble beginnings mean that Day & Ross have always had a real interest in achieving their sustainability targets not only for their community, but with the help of their community. NOREASTER® is a homegrown New Brunswick made product, built specifically for the harsh climate we face here in Atlantic Canada and across the country. It’s a product designed to not only be immovable amidst the relentless blusters at the height of our winter season, but to provide maximum power production throughout the entire year. Bi-facial solar panels producing power from reflected light off the ground, and a structural design optimized through thousands of hours of real-world testing in New Brunswick are what make NOREASTER® fit for reliably achieving any business’ sustainability targets.
